Welcome to the La Grande Marque website

Our wine bar located at 47 Ludgate Hill is a unique, old-style wine bar located in Central London. We serve a wide range of meals and have a well stocked wine cellar.

Formerly a branch of the Midland Bank, and now a Grade 2 listed building, 47 Ludgate Hill had stood empty for two years, during which time our landlord, The Crown Estates, with the help of English Heritage, had restored and refurbished the building to its former glory, as envisaged by its architect, Thomas Edward Colcutt, who oversaw its completion in 1891.

Bars in former banking halls are not so uncommon these days but this was one of the first, with wood panelling, central columns and a magnificent moulded ceiling, said to contain hidden pornographic scenes: we are still searching.

The original ceiling and marble tiles provide a grand backdrop whilst you savour your food and wine.
